Teacher in Bangladesh Army

Prof. Khan is an affiliated faculty member of the Department of Paediatrics for the Bangladesh Army. The department offers training to medical cadets of 3rd, 4th and 5th years of MBBS course with a view to making them capable of managing common childhood problems in the community.

The other two teachers include Lt. Col. Nurun Nahar Fatema Begum and Major Jesmin Sultana.

Vice President and Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS)

Prof. M. R. Khan has been an elected Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS) since 1975 and its Vice President from 2012 to present. BAS was established in 1973 with the objectives of promoting research in pure and applied science and their practical applications to problems of national welfare in Bangladesh. It is an advisory to the Government of Bangladesh.

Life Member of National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh

Prof. M. R. Khan is a Life Member of the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh. The Foundation, established in April 1999, is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to prevention, treatment, education and research on liver diseases in Bangladesh.

Other eminent Life Members include National Professor Brigadier Abdul Malik (Founder Secretary General of National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute), Prof. A. K. Azad Khan (President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh), and Nobel Laureate Peace Prize winner Prof. Muhammad Yunus.

Vice-Chairman of Jatiya Samaj Kalyan Parishad and Chairman of Polio Committee

Among his most important attachments, Dr. M. R. Khan is the Vice-Chairman of Jatiya Samaj Kalyan Parishad of the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Chairman of Polio Eradication Certification Committee of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In fact, Dr. Khan was the first introducer of vaccines against Polio, Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) in January 1965 using "Quatro Virilon"- a combined vaccine produced by the Hoechst.

Prof. M. R. Khan is also the President of Bangladesh Perinatal Society and the chief adviser and patron of ADHUNIK, a national anti-tobacco organisation, since June 2015. ADHUNIK works alongside World Health Organisation (WHO) to prevent smoking and and illicit trade in tobacco products.

When World Down Syndrome Day was celebrated for the first time in Bangladesh on 21 March 2014, Prof. M. R. Khan was invited as Chief Guest.

Retirement

Prof. Khan retired from public services in August 1988 as a Professor of Pediatrics in IPGM&R. The following year he became a a Senior Visiting Professor at ICDDR,B.
